North Bay publishes RCIP priority sectors and occupations. This community-based immigration program provides a pathway to permanent residency (PR) for skilled foreign workers who receive valid job offers from designated employers in participating rural communities across Canada.

The initiative is part of a broader federal effort to support economic development and address labor shortages in smaller communities by welcoming newcomers who are ready to contribute to local economies.

Targeted Sectors Selected By North Bay

Each of the 14 communities participating in the RCIP is permitted to select five key sectors for which foreign workers may be considered eligible. North Bay, located in Northern Ontario, has outlined its target industries to align with local labor market demands and long-term growth strategies.

The priority sectors for the North Bay RCIP are:

  • Health
  • Business, Finance & Administration
  • Sales and Service
  • Trades and Transport
  • Education, Law and Social, Community, and Government Services

The geographic region for this RCIP includes the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts, as well as the town of Latchford.

Why Priority Sectors And Occupations Matter?

The RCIP is fundamentally employer-driven, meaning that applicants need to secure a job offer from a designated employer in a participating community to qualify.

However, not every employer is eligible. Only businesses operating in the approved priority sectors may receive designation from a local economic development organization. Once designated, these employers can recruit international talent and support their PR applications through the RCIP.

In addition to sector restrictions, job offers must match NOC codes listed under the RCIP for that specific community. This ensures that only those jobs in high demand are targeted for immigration support.

Other Communities That Have Released Sector Lists

As of the time of this update, several other RCIP communities have already published their own priority sectors, including:

  • Brandon
  • Timmins
  • Thunder Bay
  • Sault Ste. Marie
  • North Okanagan – Shuswap

Out of the 14 participating communities, many more are expected to release their sector and occupation lists shortly.

Eligibility Requirements For Workers Under RCIP

To be eligible under the RCIP, foreign workers must meet the following criteria beyond holding a qualifying job offer:

  • Have at least 1,560 hours (1 year) of related work experience within the last 3 years
  • Meet minimum language proficiency standards based on the job offered
  • Possess a Canadian educational credential or a foreign equivalent
  • Show proof of settlement funds to support themselves and any accompanying family members in their transition to the community
