Canadian Cities Also Earn Top Rankings
Canada’s strong performance didn’t stop at the country rankings. Condé Nast Traveler’s awards also spotlighted the best cities in the world, divided into Best Small Cities and Best Big Cities categories.
In the small city category, Victoria, British Columbia, claimed the first position.
The magazine highlighted Victoria as a “popular day trip from Vancouver” but also recommended it as a destination worth exploring on its own. It praised the city for offering one of the most scenic ferry rides across Swartz Bay and classic British high tea experiences, available in many local restaurants.
Montreal And Vancouver Stand Out Among Big Cities
As Canada Shines in 2025 Readers’ Choice Global Rankings, it is vital to note that Montreal and Vancouver stand out among the big cities.
Montreal landed at #9, with the article spotlighting its Old Montreal neighbourhood, famous for cobblestone streets and Gothic Revival architecture. It also celebrated the city’s modern cultural energy, evident in its art museums, stylish bars, and design-forward hotels.
What sets Montreal apart from culturally similar destinations like France, according to the magazine, is its vibrant food culture. Restaurants like Joe Beef and Au Pied de Cochon were mentioned as must-visit spots.
Meanwhile, Vancouver earned 7th place on the Best Big Cities list. The city was recognized for its creative arts scene, breathtaking natural beauty, and diverse dining options.
The article highlighted that there’s something special about visiting a place where visitors can enjoy a five-star meal in the city one day and admire the skyline from a kayak the next.
Planning To Visit Canada?
If you’re considering a trip to Canada, you may need a visitor visa or an electronic travel authorization (eTA), depending on your country of citizenship.
- Travellers from visa-required countries need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). Since processing times can vary by country, it’s best to apply early.
- Travellers from visa-exempt countries must obtain an eTA before flying to Canada. It costs $7 CAD, and most applications are approved within minutes.
- Those entering by land or sea do not need an eTA, even if they’re from a visa-exempt country.
- Some travellers, including U.S. citizens and green card holders, as well as French nationals from St. Pierre and Miquelon, are exempt from both TRV and eTA requirements if flying directly from St. Pierre and Miquelon.
Canada’s recognition in these global rankings highlights its appeal as a top travel destination, combining natural beauty, cultural richness, and vibrant cities. Whether exploring a charming small town like Victoria or experiencing the energy of Montreal and Vancouver, visitors are sure to discover why Canada continues to rank among the world’s best.
