British Columbia PNP gains more nominations, i.e., British Columbia has received an additional 1,254 nomination spaces under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP), allowing the province to resume processing some waitlisted International Post-Graduate (IPG) Stream applications submitted in 2024.
The total number of nominations for 2025 now stands at 5,254, up from the initial allocation of 4,000.
With this boost, the province has regained around 69% of its 2024 allocation of 8,000 nominations.
The government of British Columbia shared the news on its official website on October 2, 2025.
How Will The New Nominations Be Used?
With more nomination slots now available, British Columbia will prioritize processing a portion of the 2,240 waitlisted IPG applications submitted last year.
Earlier this year (April 14), the province announced that applications submitted between September 1, 2024 and January 7, 2025 under the IPG Stream would be placed on hold until additional spaces were granted.
Aside from clearing the backlog of IPG applications, the province also plans to use the added nominations to continue focusing on attracting healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, and other high-impact economic candidates.
However, the province stated that it won’t expand to new priorities for 2025 until it secures more nomination spaces. British Columbia also emphasized that it continues to advocate for additional allocations from the federal government.
Why Was BC PNP’s Allocation Reduced?
The reduction in B.C.’s nomination allocation was part of a larger federal effort to manage housing pressures and the strain on social programs by moderating immigration numbers.
The 2025–2027 Immigration Levels Plan set the permanent resident admissions target for 2025 at 395,000, a significant drop from 485,000 in 2024.
As a result, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) across Canada saw their allocations cut by 50%, bringing the target to 55,000 landings in 2025, i.e., down from 110,000 the year before.
Invitations Issued In 2025 So Far

Other Provinces Receiving Allocation Increases
Following the federal government’s 50% cut to PNP nomination spaces earlier this year, several provinces and territories have pushed for more allocations to address local labor shortages and economic goals.
British Columbia is the latest province to benefit from a nomination increase, joining others that have already received similar boosts.
So far, the provinces and territories that have reported increased allocations include:
- Alberta
- New Brunswick
- Newfoundland and Labrador
- Saskatchewan
- The Yukon
- The Northwest Territories
With the added nomination spaces, British Columbia aims to reduce its backlog, support its key economic sectors, and maintain steady immigration momentum despite the broader federal cutbacks.
