Northwest Territories PNP opens the third intake with new rules, i.e., the Northwest Territories has announced a third application intake for its Nominee Program (NTNP). This new intake opened on November 10 at 9 a.m. and will close on November 24, 2025.
With this new round, the Northwest Territories plans to process up to 103 more eligible applications by the end of 2025.
Updates To The NTNP Guidelines
The territory has made several updates to the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) rules for the rest of 2025. These changes include:
- Removing the work permit expiry date requirement.
- Reinstating the 2024 work experience requirement for some streams.
- Removing application submission limits for employers.
These updates are meant to make it easier for both applicants and employers to apply under the NTNP.
How Applications Will Be Processed?
The territory’s goal is to meet its 2025 nomination target of 300 spots by processing 103 new applications.
Applications from people whose work permits are expiring within three months will be given first priority.
After that, applications will be reviewed based on the date they were received.
If the territory receives more than 103 applications, or if an application cannot be completed by December 23, 2025, then it will be withdrawn.
Applicants will get an email notification about whether their application will be reviewed or withdrawn.
Those whose applications are withdrawn will be invited to reapply in 2026.
Key Changes To Eligibility Rules
As Northwest Territories PNP opens the third intake with new rules, let us look at the key changes to the eligibility criteria.
Well, the Northwest Territories has made a few important updates that affect both candidates and employers. These rules will stay in place until the end of 2025.
For Candidates:
- Candidates can now apply no matter when their work permit expires, as long as they meet all other program requirements.
- Candidates applying under the Skilled Worker Stream or NWT Express Entry Stream must now have at least one year of full-time work experience in the last 10 years.
- This experience must be in the same or similar occupation as the one for which they are being nominated.
- The work experience can come from more than one employer.
For Employers:
- Employers are no longer limited in the number of applications they can submit based on their business size.
Why A Third Application Intake Was Added?
The Northwest Territories usually holds two application intake periods each year.
- First Intake: February 27 to March 6, 2025
- Second Intake: July 2 to July 9, 2025
However, on October 17, 2025, the Government of the Northwest Territories announced that its nomination allocation for 2025 had been restored to 2024 levels.
This increased the number of total nomination spaces from 197 to 300, thus allowing for an additional 103 applicants to be nominated.
At that time, Caitlin Cleveland, the Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, said the territory planned to open a third intake period and would share more details soon.
The new intake from November 10 to November 24, 2025, was therefore created to help the territory fill its remaining nomination spaces quickly before the end of the year.
